Why feed with us?

Opal Creek Feeders believe we can design a feeding program tailer made for you and exceed your expectations of a custom feeding supplier.

We are flexible and can rapidly implement systems to comply with your requirements and will endeavour to assimilate with your quality management protocols.

We see new projects as opportunities to evolve long term alliances that are mutually advantageous to both parties as well as creating niches in a growth industry that is not yet mature.

We can supply references for service, trade and previous cattle performance if required.  All of our past and current clients are more than willing to speak on our behalf,  and we invite you to visit our facilities at any time.  We are looking forward to answering any questions you may have and conversing in more detail about your future requirements.

Since the establishment of Opal Creek Feeders in October 2003 we have fed cattle for a number of different markets.

We averaged over 94% compliance to chiller assessment specifications for 26,000 head of domestic trade animals.

We put together a calf raising and subsequent long-fed program for Oakey holdings for their Waygu/Angus F1 progeny.  We have fed over 6000 head of these cattle during the past few years.

We have fed large numbers of short and long-fed cattle for Mort & Co as well as many short-feds for Elders and Australian Country Choice.  These have involved complex feeding and drafting strategies as well as high maintenance logistical control on cattle movements.

All of our past and current clients will freely speak on our behalf and all are available for comment as to our ability to meet and exceed their expectations as a custom feeding service.

Opal Creek is both an excellent location and site for a large scale feedlot.

The existing facilities include 58 pens which can accommodate 100 bullocks or 140 trade steers each.

The pens have excellent drainage and are equipped with 3 meter aprons on the feed bunks and the water troughs.

Most of the paddocks are well cleared with improved pastures and we plan to continue developing them by enhancing the  watering system and ramping up the rotational grazing program.

The feedlot is on a hard gravely ridge with very good convection.

The feedmill complex is well constructed and modular in design with additional vertical grain storage and rollermills easily added for expansion. The shed was sized to accommodate 30,000 head (our current licence). We have  shaded 25 pens with 3.2 square meters of shade per standard cattle unit, and will shade the rest of the feedlot by the end of 2011.

We are only 30km from the ‘Queensland Cotton’, cotton gin at Cecil Plains and are in close proximity to grain growers of all descriptions.  We have close working alliances with large scale cropping operations for sourcing grain, silage and barley straw.  We also have 1,500 acres of blacksoil cultivation for growing silage and for manure disposal
